This strain is a USDA original isolated from a plant passage of USDA 74 in 1956. USDA 74 was isolated from a nodule of a chlorotic soybean plant in a field test at Brawley, Ca in 1956. The inoculum is thought to have been USDA 8. USDA 8 was isolated from a nodule on Hope soybean growing at Arlington farm, Va, in 1915. The original accession code was 3I1b8 and was entered in the local collection as strain 273.
